  1. I can’t agree more. This show exploits these people and our industry for entertainment and the all mighty $$$. Personal Trainers as a profession (the average person doesn’t even see us as professionals) have a hard enough time over coming all the myths and misconceptions put out there by great marketers in our young industry. The TRUE professionals need to band together and over come crap like this (sorry). The people who know me know how my blood boils when I talk about this show and things like this. We as an industry need to get back to being a results based industry and move away from the entertainment industry we have become.

  2. Our bodies will adapt to more demanding environments to the degree possible, without having to go extremely far beyond one’s current capacity. The show makes people believe that exercise way beyond what we can do in order to stimulate improvement.

There are two negative impacts that might come from such misinformation. First, to inspire dangerous and overly aggressive exercise, ultimately causing injury, limiting consistency or second, to frighten others away completely.

At least they get to sell advertising for lots of processed food.

  3. I agree John,

Unfortunately good news travels much slower then the bad. And when you have programs on TV that show the general public that trainers are drill sergeants that are only interested expending as many calories as possible to lose weight as quickly as possible, it makes our jobs as Professionals much more difficult to help the masses. People are afraid to exercise because they think it will be too hard, they will get hurt, or that they will fail. I think our industry is failing the public by not putting out good, sound, proven information about health and exercise.

Again, we need to go back to a results based industry and get away from entertainment. We need to educate people about what it takes to change their body in a positive way, physically, mentally and emotionally. NOT just entertaining people doing non-productive work that is potentially dangerous.
